Veto of Keystone XL Pipeline

The following is a statement from Adrianna Quintero, Director of Voces Verdes (www.vocesverdes.org):
“Voces Verdes applauds President Obama for again showing his leadership on climate change by vetoing the Keystone XL bill before him.
Studies have shown that the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline poses a threat to our water, our health and most importantly, to our already fragile climate. Regardless of our race or ethnicity, communities should not be forced to put their well-being at risk to generate more profits for the fossil fuel industry.
Poll after poll shows that Latinos, regardless of party affiliation, income or education, want our government to act on climate change and 86% of Latino voters that want our country to invest in clean energy rather than fossil fuels. The president’s actions today demonstrate that he recognizes this support.
We thank him for his veto and encourage the president to stand by his commitment to fight climate change by rejecting the pipeline altogether.”
