Trump-Pruitt Plan to Kill Fuel Standards Means More $$ Spent on Gas and More Pollution

Just when we think we have seen it all, the Trump administration brings us more bad news announcing their plan to eliminate pollution limits for passenger vehicles. This senseless decision will affect our environment, our health and our economy.

In 2012, the EPA bolstered the standards, requiring all new vehicles to a fuel efficiency rating of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. These Fuel Efficiency Standards standards are designed to reduce the toxic pollutants coming from vehicles and save us money. Allowing car manufacturers to go back to producing less fuel-efficient vehicles that increase pollution and force us to pay more for gas, makes no sense. Car companies have shown that they can and will reduce emissions if the are required to—resulting in better cars, more competitive pricing and a cleaner environment.

Like all hard-working Americans, Latinos will pay for this decision in dollars as well as in health impacts.

Trump administration and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt are proving once again that they are more concerned with the interests of big corporations than with the wellbeing of everyday people.
